Pic-A-Pec Description

Pic-A- Pec is an Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) tool which facilitates communication for individuals, especially children, with a variety of needs. Its aim is to provide a functional and easily navigated platform for visual communication exchange that is adaptable for any skill level. Unlike other AAC apps, it assumes little to no prior knowledge of concepts such as categories, cause and effect and generalisation making it truly functional for any cognitive ability. It has considered issues such as sensory sensitivity, customisation for each unique user and more. Pic-A-Pec takes the frustration out of learning to communicate because of its ease of navigation and options to completely customise it.
Pic-A-Pec works by scrolling through pages of icons, selecting the desired symbol which is visually sent to the sentence area. Upon sentence completion it can be presented to the listener or read out by the text to talk function. Each step of the process mimics physical picture exchange, only the user can do so using a platform that does not attract negative social stigma.
Pic-A-Pec has been developed by a behavioural therapist with experience teaching and implementing picture exchange systems, giving an understanding of the challenges and requirements of meeting the needs of its users. It has been developed as an element to assist individuals and families by being time and cost effective.

1.2 Updates
Added a selection of Starter icons to use with your own images or photos. You are now given a more complete layout to begin trying the app straight away.
While in edit mode you can now rearrange icons by dragging and dropping them.
Defect causing some devices to crash when adding/editing icons has been corrected.

You can now hide the text on the images if it isn't required.
Categories can now easily be re-sorted in Edit mode using the up and down arrows.
